Water electrolysis hydrogen production process

1. Solid polymer electrolyte
Solid polymer electrolytes, SPE electrolysis of water, were originally used to supply oxygen to spacecraft or submarines, or as hydrogen generators in laboratories (which can be used in gas chromatography). After the large-scale development of nuclear power, people use SPE technology to electrolyze water to produce hydrogen during low power consumption periods, and use SPE hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells to provide external power during power supply peaks, making it an energy storage and conversion device.
2. Electrolyzed pure water
High-purity hydrogen is produced by directly electrolyzing pure water (without adding alkali). The electrolytic cell only electrolyzes pure water to produce hydrogen. After power is supplied, the cathode of the electrolytic cell produces hydrogen, the anode produces oxygen, and the hydrogen enters the hydrogen/water separator. Oxygen is vented into the atmosphere. A hydrogen/water separator separates hydrogen gas and water. After hydrogen enters the dryer for dehumidification, it is adjusted to the rated pressure (0.02~0.45Mpa adjustable) through the pressure stabilizing valve and regulating valve and is output from the outlet. The hydrogen production pressure of the electrolytic cell is controlled by a sensor at about 0.45Mpa. When the pressure reaches the set value, the power supply of the electrolytic cell is cut off; when the pressure drops below the set value, the power supply is restored.

The electrolyte circulation loop in these systems also requires pumps that can handle corrosive KOH solution continuously without leakage. Sealless magnetic drive pumps are widely used in hydrogen production equipment for this reason, as they eliminate the shaft seal failure risk entirely. Industrial pump manufacturers specializing in chemical and extreme-temperature fluid handling provide purpose-built solutions for these applications.
